On February 3, 2009, I received a call from APX Alarm Company alerting me about a possible intrusion located at the rear window of my home. I requested for the operator to contact the police and have them to check out to my home. Within a few minutes my daughter called and advised APX needed me to come home because the police observed broken glass from the window.

When I arrived, the police were waiting for me in my backyard, examining the broken window. The police were given entry into the house to secure the premises. Due to the quick response of APX, the potential intruder had not been able to gain entry. Later that evening, I received a call around 8:00 p.m. from APX, asking if there was anything additional they could do to assist in the matter.

I am very grateful to experience such diligence and dedication from APX Alarm Company.

The beginning to Sonny Rast’s story isn’t uncommon, but its outcome is. So he pauses. He reaches for words, for a way to tell a story that could have ended differently. “I have no way to describe the pain,” he begins. “It was like lightning bolts.”

Sonny’s stroke occurred in a stairwell on a normal day. He was taking care of his granddaughter. “Something didn’t feel right,” Rast says. “And then the lights went out.”

This is the point where Sonny’s tone changes and his story becomes unique. Using his APX Alarm medical pendant to activate his security system, Sonny Rast called for help from his stairwell during the onset of a stroke. Without the medical pendant, without APX alarm’s two-way voice capability that let Sonny talk with first responders directly through his alarm panel, his story would have ended differently.

Like any stroke victim, Sonny understands the weight of time. He understands that he’s able to share his story today because paramedics were at his side within minutes. “You cannot find a way to describe how comfortable it makes one feel that at the touch of a button, in a matter of seconds, there is somebody hovering over you to save your life,” he explains. But ultimately no explanation is needed. The simple realization that APX was there when minutes mattered is good enough for Sonny.

With her grandmother at her side, Dominicque’ka Cook fought to get control of a kitchen fire that was spreading fast. The elder Ms. Cook ran for the Apx Alarm panel, alerting the Apx service center of their dire situation. In two minutes, the Mobile, Alabama Fire Department was at their door.

“They told me if I would have laid down, I probably would not have woken up. Very, very scary to know that I was inches away from death. Apx saved my life, ”Dominicque’ka told us. With Apx built-in fire protection, she trusted the system. Emily is Dominique’kas’ nice and is taken care of each day by her Grandmother Cook. APX made all the difference for Emily and what her life would be like going forward.

Today, with their house still standing, grandmother, daughter, granddaughter and niece all know the power of having APX in their lives.
